About Ben

Ben Black is Fortinbras’ managing partner and applies his specialized expertise in capital structure, financing, and liability management to identify and enhance the firm’s investment opportunities.

Mr. Black brings extensive experience to the firm, having been the Senior Portfolio Manager at Knowledge Universe, where he managed special situations and credit portfolios. His diverse background provides him with expertise across a variety of areas, having been a co-founder of healthcare venture firm, OCV, and serving as CFO and COO at numerous portfolio companies. Previously, Mr. Black worked in Private Equity at Apollo Global Management and was an Attorney at Sullivan & Cromwell.

By serving on numerous boards – including Phaidon, WEconnect Health Management, and ESW Group – Mr. Black is well-positioned to lead Fortinbras while providing strong sourcing abilities by integrating and leveraging deep networks and long-standing relationships.

He began his career in Technology, Media & Telecom banking at Goldman Sachs and holds a JD/MBA from Harvard University, an LLM in Taxation from NYU, and graduated cum laude from the University of Pennsylvania with a BA in History.
